  • Will the pouch be given to the customers?
No, the Retaso Pouch will not be given to the customers. Only the item ordered will be handed to the customers. After the delivery, the Retaso Pouches will be kept by the rider, to be sanitized so it can be used again. This is to avoid introduction of new plastic pouches.
  • How huge can this impact the plastic consumption in the courier industry?
Using 5,000 Retaso Pouches/month for 1 year, would reduce 1.07 tons or 60,000 pieces of plastic pouches from the landfill/ocean. Around, 73 gold bars or 1 live oak tree for weight comparison.
  • Why is this mission critical?
Online shopping has seen a surge of adoption during the pandemic, and with it comes an increase in use of plastic packaging and bubble wraps. This contributes to the already dire plastic pollution in oceans and landfills. To address this, we wanted to shift away from the linear single-use packaging system of couriers and shift towards a circular system that uses reusable packaging.
  • How did we involve circularity in our project?
We aim to produce our cord-locks through 3D printing recycled PET bottles that commonly pollutes any environment, which would help us to further reduce the use of new plastic materials in our design. The old broken cord-locks would then be melted and be poured in the mold to be reused again. The pouches that no longer serves its purpose due to its limited shelf-life, would then be disassembled and re-used either, as a padding, a cord strap, and or as an outer layer of the pouch. Basically, all of our materials would be endlessly re-used to prevent them from polluting our environment.
  • Will the pouches undergo sanitation?
Yes, we have designed a sanitation process that was verified by a microbiologist and a sanitary engineer. This will ensure the safety of everyone that will be utilizing our services.
